The Advantages of Practicing Law in Delaware

Because of its forward thinking and flexible business laws, Delaware is the home to numerous large, public corporations and business entities. More than half of all U.S. publicly-traded companies are incorporated in Delaware. As a result many high profile corporate transactions and law suits are handled by Delaware lawyers and the Delaware Courts. Opinions issued by the Delaware Courts consistently provide the frame work for national movements and debates regarding corporate law matters. In recent years, the Delaware courts have consistently been ranked overall as the best state courts in the country in an annual survey by an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The result of these factors is that Delaware lawyers enjoy a sophisticated practice that rivals that available in any major city across the United States. At the same time, the small size of the Delaware Bar provides an atmosphere of collegiality among its members that simply is not possible in larger metropolitan areas.
Recruiting
Associates
We provide our associates hands-on opportunities to become engaged in the practice of law. Most of our associates practice in the areas of corporate and commercial law. The fast pace of corporate transactions and litigation, particularly in the Court of Chancery, presents unique opportunities for our associates to become actively involved in sophisticated and often high-profile matters early in their careers. To foster one-on-one mentoring relationships, associates are assigned a supervising member of the Firm within the associate's practice area. Associates ordinarily rotate supervisors every year for varying perspectives on the practice of law and professional development. Associates are also encouraged to attend ABA, DSBA and other professional development programs in Delaware and across the country.
Compensation and Benefits
The Firm offers a competitive compensation and benefits package for our associates, including health insurance, 401(k) program and free parking.
Lateral Candidates
The Firm encourages applications from lateral associates. Preference is given to members of the Delaware Bar. Applicants not admitted to practice in Delaware are required to apply for Delaware Bar admission. Corporate transactional or litigation experience is preferred. All applications will be held in confidence.
